Glasgow, Scotland: April 20th 2026: Dr Richard Taylor, CEO of Vector Photonics, the Scottish start-up which is pioneering the use of photonic crystal surface emitting lasers (PCSEL) in secure communications, will give a presentation at the 16th CS (Compound Semiconductor) International conference in Brussels, Belgium on April 22th. Titled: ‘Photonic Crystal Surface Emitting Lasers – Their Potential for Advanced Communications’, Dr Taylor’s presentation will examine how Vector Photonics’ PCSELs could enable free-space links, orbital angular momentum (OAM) transmission in fibre and free space, and SiP compatible architectures.
Dr Taylor comments: “PCSELs are poised to reshape optical communications and integrated photonics in next generation networks. PCSELs have the potential to improve system performance through design of their mode purity, low divergence, and efficient coupling across diverse platforms.” Recently, Vector Photonics held the first successful public demonstration of PCSEL technology for optical communication outside of a lab, when PCSELs were used to transmit data across the Clyde from the Glasgow Science Centre to the Clydeside Distillery using a system designed and built by Fraunhofer UK.
Dr Taylor’s presentation will be held at 10.30am on Wednesday 22nd April 2026 at the Sheraton Brussels Airport Hotel, Brussels National Airport, Brussels, Belgium. The latest CS International event has around 40 leaders from industry and academia. Dr Taylor’s presentation will conclude the stream titled ‘Advancing a broadening laser portfolio’. Other streams will focus on GaN, SiC and microLEDs. Delegates will gain greater insight into device technologies while learning of the latest opportunities and trends within the compound semiconductor industry.
